Fountain Bistro originally opened in the summer of 2010 as a light-fare breakfast and lunch spot. In 2011, with the acquisition of a liquor license and a complete kitchen and dining room renovation, Fountain Bistro evolved into a European-inspired destination that all Detroiters should experience.

Fountain Bistro is owned by John Lambrecht, Jr. (owner of Bookies Bar and Grill), and his partners Matthew and Kevin Morin (owners of Macro Connect and Detroiters for well over a decade). With the renovations, the ownership team really wanted to give Detroit residents a great place to have lunch, dinner, or a happy hour drink – a place that Detroiters will want to keep visiting.

Kitchen Leadership

The Fountain Bistro kitchen serves as a sort of reunion for two old friends and coworkers, Javon Robinson and Jerry Nottage.

Javon is the Bistro's Executive Chef and the longest tenured member of our staff. He has provided leadership to our culinary team since our first remodel in 2011. Prior to his joining the Bistro, Javon acted as the Executive Chef at Maccabee's at Midtown, the Grand City Grill, and the Detroit Breakfast House. A hallmark of Javon's kitchens is a calm, organized team that is focused on delivering excellent cuisine with minimal drama (a refreshing thing in this industry).

Jerry Nottage, our Chef de Cuisine, is a polished veteran of the Detroit restaurant scene having acted as the Concept Executive Chef and a leader of the Southern Hospitality Restaurant Group for nearly 10 years. In this role, he won numerous awards including: Hour Magazine and Detroit News Restaurant of the Year in 2006 (Seldom Blues), Metro Times' Best Chef of the Year in 2008, and WDIV's Best Breakfast Restaurant in 2007 (Detroit Breakfast House).

Javon and Jerry have worked together for many years at many restaurants (Jerry claims to have taught Javon everything he knows...) and while the roles are reversed now, with Javon acting as the Executive Chef, they are a tremendous team and their abilities truly shine when the Bistro hosts big events like Detroit Restaurant Week and special holiday meals. When you stop by, if you are lucky, either Javon or Jerry might be walking the floor checking on guests. They are always happy to answer a question, or share details of the next exciting dish they are crafting.

Service Leadership

In mid 2013, we hired Matthew Scott as our Assistant General Manager. Then, about 1 year later, we promoted him to be our General Manager. Matthew has worked in fine dining for numerous years and has experience at such Detroit classics as The Whitney, Mario's and 24 Grille. Since joining us, Matthew has helped our bar and waitstaff really shine. In addition to being a great leader, he is also a great guy who is always happy to share stories and make recommendations for a fabulous day in Detroit.

Matthew also meticulously maintains our wine list, which is truly a living document. The list spans the old and new world and includes wine from Chile, Argentina, California, Michigan, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, and Spain. Our list, including our new reserve wines, is one of the finest in the City and belies the small size of our restaurant. As a testament, this year, our list won a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence.
